I Wish I Could…

January 13, 2011

Welcome to a new bi-weekly post (or more often if we see fit) Mel and I will call I Wish I Could… We’ll talk about all the amazing destinations and events we wish our little pocketbooks and  date books could afford. Fabulous hotels, weekend workshops, and awesome things in general that we just can’t do but would love to share with all of you! Please feel free to share with us the things you wish you could do and places you wish you could go, we’d love to hear them!

Salt Lake City

I wish I could attend the Altitude Design Summit in Salt Lake City, UT January 19th through the 22nd.  It’s a weekend workshop for a wide variety of creative bloggers. Everything from fashion to food to travel! The lineup of speakers includes a plethora of successful bloggers and business owners, including Grace Bonney of Design*Sponge (design, lifestyle), Kathryn Storke of Snippet & Ink (all things love and wedding), and Marisa Haedike of  Creative Thursday (her blog is her way of keeping her creative projects on track-like me and Mel!).

There are also fabulous keynote speakers. The ones I’m saddest to miss are Seth Aaron, winner of Project Runway Season 7 and Mondo Guerra, runner up Season 8, whose topic is The Intersection of Design & Technology (ok maybe I just want to see what they wear to the keynote).

Mondo Guerra Designer Mondo Guerra speaks on the Project Runway Spring 2011 fashion show during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at The Theater at Lincoln Center on September 9, 2010 in New York City.

Altitude is also interactive. Each day there is a Design Camp where you can get your creative juices flowing! Sewing, calligraphy, and Photoshop sessions are also taught by some oh-so-talented bloggers.

At the end of the weekend there are lots of small group round table discussion where attendees can ask the experts in a more intimate setting. The website says “It will feel like you’re receiving a one on one consulting session.”

Outside of all the learning and creativity are after hours meet-ups! A welcome dinner with food from some of the best restaurants in Salt Lake   fabulous cocktail parties after the Thursday and Friday workshops. And best of all are the excursions available to those staying through Saturday. You can ski for free at Solitude Ski Resort, take a city photo tour with accomplished photographer Justin Hackworth, and best of all (and one of my bucket list items!) attend the Sundance Film Festival which is also running that weekend.

Wish I was shopping for my fur lined parka and mucklucks for a Salt Lake City weekend, but maybe next year Re-Deux will be in attendance!
