Junk Bonanza!

April 15, 2014

This past weekend Mel and I took a little road trip to Minnesota for the Junk Bonanza. The Bonanza is held at Canterbury Park, a huge venue in Shakopee, MN (a short distance from Minneapolis). Hundreds of vendors fill the space with re-purposed, antique, salvaged, and vintage finds. There is everything from flea market regulars like painted furniture and mason jars to down-right odd items like doll heads and test tubes.

Our first impression of this place was CRAZY PACKED. We got there 30 minutes after opening, and we could barely get into any of the booths because there were so many people. There is an Early Bird entry, where you can pay extra to shop 2 hours before the general public. We highly recommend taking that route so you can avoid the people unaware of personal space and moms with double strollers (with only one kid in them, ?). We have heard people say it took them more than one day to get through the whole Bonanza, however we got through in 2.5 hours. Keep in mind though, that we are fast shoppers and can quickly scan a booth and know whether or not we need a further look. Chalk it up to years of experience:)

Here are some of the items we found. Junk Bonanza is definitely worth a look if you’re in the area in spring or fall (the next one is in September).

We did take home a few items, here are the treasures Mel took home:

Besides going to check out the Bonanza, we also went up to hang out with one of our best buddies, Rosa. We spent some quality time with her and her adorable family-her husband Barry, 3 year old Isabel and 1 year old Ansel. Mel and I do not have children, so we love being the fun Aunties! We read Isabel lots of books, and Ansel’s favorite thing was ‘cheers’ing his sippy cup with Mel’s wine glass. Rosa and Barry love to cook, so they spoiled us with plenty of yummy food. We even squeezed in a trip to the Minneapolis Institute of Arts with the littles.

Such a great weekend! Now it’s time to get back to work:) Happy Tuesday!
